School safety incidents in New York

New York school districts are required each year to report the number of violent incidents in their schools to the state Education Department.

The data includes any incident of assault, bullying, gun possession or other violent acts. In the 2017-18 school year, the state changed the reporting from 20 types of incidents to nine in an effort to streamline the reporting.

Below is a look at the total number of incidents by school district in the 2012-13 school year through the 2017-18 school year, which is the most recent data available.
